Who We Are

Chelsea Cole, BSc ND

Co-Founder & Writer

Growing up in Newfoundland meant that Chelsea spent long summer days picking wild blueberries, and enjoyed many loaves of homemade bread fresh from the oven. As she became older, and travelled to new places, she came to realize that trying new foods and flavors was a source of joy and inspiration, and cooking became not only an act of self-care, but also a fun way to pass the time with friends and family.

While completing a science degree, Chelsea became interested in nutrition, and the role it can play in improving health and wellbeing. Due to this interest, she decided to pursue naturopathic medicine, and was fascinated to learn about the medicinal properties of common herbs, spices, and foods. After many conversations over coffee, wine, and lovely food, Chelsea and Sarah decided to create Fare & Flourish.

Chelsea is happy to live in Victoria, BC, where there are many good coffee shops, farmer’s markets, and hiking trails. She has a general naturopathic clinical practice at Juniper Family Health, with a particular interest in helping women become happier and healthier.

Sarah Nyrose, BSc ND

Co-Founder, Writer & Photographer

Sarah was raised in Alberta, where baking cookies with her mom, community potlucks, and krumkake (a Norwegian wafer cookie) formed some of her fondest food memories. Her lifelong passion for food began after she moved to Vancouver, BC, where she discovered different cultural cuisines and refined her culinary skills (which involved countless cooking failures).

Sarah studied environmental sciences at the University of British Columbia and naturopathic medicine at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. Her passions for sustainability, food, health and photography inspired her to create Fare & Flourish with the lovely Chelsea Cole.

Sarah lives with her husband (Stephen) and their two dogs in Victoria, BC, where they can be found visiting the local farmers market, taking photos, testing new recipes, and exploring the outdoors. Sarah practices as a naturopathic doctor at Hawthorne Naturopathic Centre, with a focus on women’s health and digestion.

When he’s not in the office, you can find him letterpress printing, playing guitar, or making a creamy tofu curry.

Nathan Smith

Photographer

Born in Canada, but raised in Jamaica, Nathan spent his days enjoying the rich culinary variety on offer in the tropical paradise. Weekends spent at the beach afforded him an appreciation for the simpler things in life, which in his case, meant food and good vibes.

Nathan moved to the West Coast for the easy winters and temperate summers. Despite the incredible natural vistas around him on Vancouver Island, he found the thing he most enjoyed photographing is that which connects us all, the human element. He believes the real beauty in portrait photography is in learning to tell a story, to put a lifetime of emotion or experiences into one single image. It’s in learning not to focus a lens but to focus attention. It’s in learning to expose our souls.

On his days off, you might bump into him trekking around Victoria with his two dogs, and trying to get his friends to pause for photos.
