Why Fare & Flourish
The idea for Fare & Flourish was sparked by a shared love for food, and fuelled by a passion for sustainability, community, and food as medicine.

Fare & Flourish was first conceptualized a number of years ago over coffee on a beach. Sarah revealed that when she returned from a trip in South America a few years back, she became passionate about understanding the environmental impact of certain foods, had started researching, and was interested in creating a website on that topic. Chelsea revealed that learning about nutrition and botanical medicine inspired her to want to create a website about using food and culinary botanicals as medicine. After an exciting exchange of ideas, we decided to collaborate, and have been slowly developing Fare & Flourish ever since. Between that first conversation and now, Sarah and Chelsea graduated as naturopathic doctors, started clinical practice, and spent countless hours making and eating food together, taking photos of said food, researching and writing articles, and planning Fare & Flourish’s structure, intention and future.
At the heart of Fare & Flourish is a desire to share knowledge and be intentional about eating. Environmental consequences, social justice, nostalgia, celebration, nutrition, and medicine all play a role in deciding what to cook and eat. Fare & Flourish is an online resource that explores those facets of food through recipes, stories, and researched articles. As licensed naturopathic doctors who get excited about food, we felt that we could provide trustworthy information about the medicinal value of food and healthy eating, without forgetting to acknowledge that there is more to food than the nutritional content. Our hope is that you feel inspired to cook a lovely, nourishing meal, and learn how to incorporate food as medicine in your daily life.
